SHORT BITS – #8

Another tour date for Radiohead as been announced, as they will play the Sziget Festival in Hungary. It will take place from 8/9 to 8/16. This is in addition to their Bonnaroo Festival (7/16 to 7/18) and V Festival (8/19 to 8/20) dates. I wonder when we’ll get some new details on their new album, scheduled for later this year. We all love little rock star feuds, where the ego seems to get the best of them. There seems to be a new verbal fight through the press every week too. This time it’s between Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) and Axl Rose (Guns N’ Roses). Rose started it off by calling bass player Duff McKagan spineless and calling Weiland a fraud. Weiland shot back by posting on Guns N’ Roses’ web site telling Axl to get a new wig and he called him a “fat, Botox-faced, wig-wearin’ f—” and also called him an “unoriginal, uncreative little mind, the same mind that had to rely on its bandmates to write melodies and lyrics — who’s the fraud now?” He also poked fun at the band’s lack of production in the past decade. It’s always amusing isn’t it? ( source )

Even Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions tend to be messy these days. Blondie was recently inducted, and former guitarist Frank Infante and former bassist Nigel Harrison said it felt like they were “watching their own funeral” when the video tribute montage was played. They wanted to play with the current band members for the induction, but were denied. They had some interesting comments afterwards. Previously, they both tried to sue to rejoin the group. Some people get rather desperate for some money. ( source )

Punk legends The New York Dolls played yet another show the other night, this time one of the smallest in their career. It was exclusively for 200 people. They’ll just keep on rolling along. ( source )

Tool’s new album is nearing release, and it is one of the most anticipated releases of 2006. The album will be their first in five years and will be titled, 10,000 Days. Check source for tour dates. ( source )

SNL is following the trend in banning their copyrighted material from internet video trading sites such as YouTube. It is specifically for the Natalie Portman Rap, which was odd but amusing. ( source )

If The Sex Pistols reform, they plan to avoid Italy and Denmark in their tours because of their dissatisfaction with the fans on their last visits there. They claimed one show in Roskilde was their worst memorable one ever, as they were pelted with big cider bottles by a small mob. The funny part about the news is the big cider bottles. ( source )

We know that while badass indie kids prefer Facebook over MySpace, MySpace remains a great tool for band promotion. The new ‘Scarface’ video game is hosting a competition on MySpace to find new bands to play in the game and win other various awards. The winner and two runners-up will be sent to Los Angeles to play at E3 (a big video game show). ( source )

Morrissey’s new album leaked last week, but more importantly, his tour started last night. Look for a review of the album in the coming days. Check the source for his upcoming tour dates. ( source )

Another update will be made later today.
