Grant McLennan: 1958-2006

As many of you already sadly know, Grant McLennan of The Go-Betweens passed away last Sunday in his sleep of a reported heart attack. As one of the most successful bands in Australian history, The Go-Betweens are known for numerous outstanding albums, notably 16 Lovers Lane, which is one of my favorites of all time. We send our sincere condolences to the McLennan family.

Below are four great songs from The Go-Betweens. ‘Man O’Sand To Girl O’Sea’ and ‘Bachelor Kisses’ are both off of the great album, Spring Hill Fair, which was released in 1984. They both show off the varying spectrums of the band, as ‘Man O’Sand To Girl O’Sea’ is aggressive and insanely catchy, and ‘Bachelor Kisses’ is slow-paced and hauntingly beautiful. ‘The Clarke Sisters’ is off of 1987’s Tallulah, and the song’s lyrical focus is very entertaining as the tale about two misunderstood sisters is very vivid and imaginative as Robert Forster and McLennan took the song to full strides. ‘Born To A Family’ was on The Go-Betweens’ final album, Oceans Apart, which was released last year. The Go-Betweens, along with McLennan, will always be remembered as a brilliant band that created countless number of classic songs. McLennan’s music will continue to live.
