Davy Jones, lead singer for 1960s pop group and TV sensations The Monkees, died earlier today in Florida of a heart attack. The 66-year-old native of Manchester, England was named by Yahoo Music in 2008 as “the number one teen idol of all time”. In his later years Jones worked a solo career, along with several Monkees reunions. The most recent was “An Evening with The Monkees: The 45th Anniversary Tour”, which took place last year. It was their first reunion tour since 2002’s “Monkeemania”. Jones joined The Monkees in 1965 and helped pen such hits as “Daydream Believer”, “I’m a Believer”, and “Last Train to Clarksville”.
Jones died at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, Fla., after complaining of chest pains the Tuesday evening at his home in Indiantown, Florida. He is survived by his wife Jessica and four daughters from previous marriages.
