Obscure Sound: Best of August 2012

/

indie music compilation

I spent the past week relocating  from NYC to Portland, Oregon. This compilation made the six hour plane ride pass by quickly, which was helpful since I’m never able to sleep on planes. I feel this tracklisting is easy to get lost in. Let me know if you agree. The first track, “Yet Again”, prepares us for Grizzly Bear’s new album, Shields. Next up, Leaves of Green is a band also located in NYC, with a sound that suggests Grizzly Bear as an influence. “Caving In” is a great track that shows why to keep an eye on the young band. Kolapore is a brand new project that admires Paul Simon’s use of Afro-pop; their stuff is so impressive I had to include two tracks. The UFO Club and Nude Beach bring us back to some good ol’ rock, while Mr. Meeble and Icons of Andria provide electro-pop that is both lush and infectious. Wild Nothing, White Denim, and Matthew Dear are already familiar names, but their new efforts show the excellence of each new release.
