The Green Fields – “When the Blowing Wind Comes”

The Green Fields music

The sounds of North Carolina-based songwriter Chris Mondia resemble gold nuggets culled from obscure ’60s pop compilations, which continue to be a great method of discovering new material from a decade with an ample amount of overlooked songwriters. Mondia is writing in the present day though; much of the material on his Soundcloud was recorded sometime between 1999 and now. Still, his retaining of ’60s pop authenticity is impressive, from the breezy hooks to a blue-skied mode of production that fully takes advantage of his relatively meek – but crisply hypnotic – vocals. “When the Blowing Wind Comes” is a slice of retro pop magic, with twinkling keys, jangly guitars, and intermittent brass leading sentiments that are very much typical of ’60s folk: the search for an easy-breezy utopia, where unspoken grudges and flaky existences cease to surround us. Relax, and treat yourself to a songwriter whose pop songwriting has the ability to touch ’60s nostalgia without appearing overly reliant on its influence.

  1. You should try finding his old band A.T.I. from when he lived in Jacksonville, Fl. INCREDIBLE!

  2. Chris sure has developed as not only a great artist/musician but is also excellent behind the board as a Producer. Pass the word. This guy’s a keeper.
