NoNoNo – “Like the Wind”

nonono - like the wind

Looking for a new summer song to take the place of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”? NoNoNo’s self-titled single “Pumpin Blood”, released a few weeks ago, is already enveloping radio waves; it might be just the thing to add to your pool-party playlist this summer. Following in the footsteps of Peter Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks” and Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks”, the track drops not with a beat, but a whistle. While perhaps a bit trite and overdone at this point, the whistle still has the effect of breathing life into what would otherwise be just another unmemorable indie-pop song. Its purpose within the melody is clear; it gets listener into the mood to hop into the car for an unplanned seaside adventure with friends.

The self-described “urban-indie” band is (yet another) Swedish pop group and consists of producers Astma & Rocwell and singer/songwriter Stina Wäppling, who released another hot single this past November, “Like the Wind“, which is more under the radar but as equally impressive as “Pumpin Blood”. “Like the Wind” is propelled by a driving, yet minimal, kick accompanied by ethereal reverb-laden percussion and vocals, making it another great choice for your 2013 summer mix.

  1. Agreed about the ‘whistle’, to be honest it’s normally something that leads to an immediate turn-off – but they just about get away with it here.
