Slack Armada – “Rebirth”

Taking a cue from Boards of Canada, Four Tet, Mogwai, and other atmospherically minded artists, the Chicago-based solo project Slack Armada shows plenty of capability throughout his eponymous EP. The delicate nature of tracks like “Rebirth” is capable of transporting listeners to another world. Atmosphere is certainly a priority for project founder James Hrabak, but that doesn’t mean melody and construction are abandoned. The overall structure of “Rebirth” has plenty of charisma. It begins in a crystallized utopia setting, surrounded by glittery synths and gentle guitar lines. The crystal effects increase in prominence throughout the next two minutes, before a lull just past the three-minute mark prepares listeners for the finale, which features a booming synth-bass and crisper percussion.
