Kevin Jenkins – “Janie’s Silver Lining”

kevin jenkins music

Producing smooth and soulful blues and roots rock in the vein of Eric Clapton and Joe Cocker, Kevin Jenkins’ sound has brought him everywhere from Madison Square Garden to Tokyo’s Budokan throughout his 38-year career. The professional bassist and songwriter has played in massive arenas and quaint cafes alike, captivating an audience wherever. Those who have seen his mastery live are probably not surprised that his new album, ‘Til the Story’s Told, is full of similar rootsy goodness. Particularly effective is lead single “Janie’s Silver Lining”, a mid-tempo rocker featuring crawling strings, sultry backing female vocals, and a gently galloping bass line accompanying Jenkins’ smooth-as-butter vocals.

I enjoyed Jenkins’ 2013 album, What Comes Around, quite a bit — but I find ‘Til the Story’s Told to be an overall more polished and resounding effort. You can stream most of the album’s tracks via Jenkins’ Soundcloud.
