Swimming Tapes – “Souvenirs”

With a keen ear for melody, London quintet Swimming Tapes have found dream-pop bliss on their single “Souvenirs”. Layered guitars that sound straight out of the ’90s shoegaze era (albeit with a lot less fuzz) take center stage while frontman Robbie Reid muses on relationships and life itself. There’s a sense of wonder, but also one of longing for a time gone by. “Everything has to turn,” he sings while tight harmonies coalesce beneath him. A depressing statement, but the bright soundscape would have you believe that everything will work out just fine in the end.
