Fascinations Grand Chorus – “Can’t Make Everyone Happy”

fascinations-grand-chorus

Off the second EP from Brooklyn-based duo Fascinations Grand Chorus, “Can’t Make Everyone Happy” is a stunning success that rides on soaring vocals reflecting both contemporary indie-pop and vintage girl-group allure — in that sense reminiscent of Frankie Rose or Camera Obscura’s Tracyanne Campbell. Accompanying this is a very psychedelic-friendly production set, with murky guitars and charismatic twangs working around a Beach Boys-like rhythmic bounciness. The instrumental bridge at 02:49 is excellently maneuvered, adding playful melodic variation to the preceding hypnotic structural elements. This is a captivating effort through-and-through.
