Très Oui – “Prince of Pop”

Très Oui are an indie-pop act out of Austin, who just released their debut EP Singles Going Nowhere on Feburary 4th via Austin Town Hall Records and Square of Opposition Records. The act is comprised of members from the group Literature, who after releasing 2014’s “Chorus” decided that a new project was in order for a fresh approach. Lead singer/guitarist Nate Cardaci and Steven Garcia (Rose Selavy) teamed up in addition to bassist Seth Whaland and synth player Ian Jensen to complete the lineup.

“Prince of Pop” is one of the EP’s highlights, being immediately captivating with very active guitar work that gives off an ’80s jangle. Powerful rhythms complement the initial verses, with guitar flourishes reminiscent of Smith Westerns also coming into play over intensifying vocals, leading to a jubilant chorus that proclaims “when you’re the prince of pop, yeah, you’ve got so many, many friends.” It’s catchy as hell, and a track that shows the act’s strengths well.
