Sara Ontaneda – “Chico Bien”

Ecuadorian-American singer/songwriter Sara Ontaneda integrates Southern-American rhythms with melodic and colorful folk and R&B, with a background in classical music, jazz, and bossa nova. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Ontaneda shows impressive versatility and songwriting throughout her new album Entre Espacios y Colores, which released on March 20th. It’s her full-length debut, with some tracks in Spanish and others in English. It’s a reflection of her multi-cultural life in New York City, where she’s presently based. Opening track “Chico Bien” is an example of the goodness to expect. With a suaveness and lush catchiness reminiscent of Os Mutantes’ Rita Lee, the sound quickly introduces brass-laden smoothness and multi-layered vocals for a full-encompassing sound. It’s a quaintly additive track, one of many throughout the release.

Listeners in NYC can check Sara out on Sunday, April 9th at The Bitter End (147 Bleecker Street) at 8:30pm, for her album release show.
