Channel Swimmer – “Poolside”

/

After drawing acclaim for a sample-driven sound that favored comparisons to The Avalanches on 2013 album Alphabet, London-based project Channel Swimmer will release a new album – Souvenirs – this year, still emphasizing gorgeous samples though in way that forms a more individual sound. Taking an early listen to it, Souvenirs is already one of my favorite releases of the year — a colorful, supremely melodic journey through various genres and hypnotic arrangements, particularly on stunning highlights “Look Up, Paradise”, “Love As A Bar Girl”, and especially “P.A.W.S.”.

The album’s opening track, “Poolside”, can be streamed above with its accompanying video. A dreamy symphonic allure comprises the first half-minute, before psych-friendly percussion and organ glistens combines with vocal samples and intensifying string flourishes. It’s a very pleasant and stylish track, off an album with ample success. Look out for Souvenirs in full shortly.
