Emme – “Wander”

//

Emme is an act from Austin, Texas comprised of vocalist Sowmya Somanath and beatmaker Walter Nichols. Somanath’s vocals are entirely captivating, lush and caressing in allowing the atmospheric beats to flow fully. On “Wander”, an orchestral-like arpeggio reminiscent of Philip Glass transitions into a blaring synth/brass combo, as Somanath asks “where did you wander off to?” It’s an excellent moment, one akin to the arsenal of Wye Oak. The final one-third, with its budding synth arpeggio, builds on a more ’80s-themed arsenal — rather different from the first section, though still cohesive in managing to build flawlessly back into the primary hook. The other two tracks on their Soundcloud, “Motioncure” and “Techie”, are equally captivating. Check this rising duo out, for sure.
