N.ave – “Black Professional”

/

N.ave is a Philadelphia based hip-hop artist and producer whose new EP Black Professional presents some of the finest hip-hop tracks I’ve heard so far this year. The release gives a peak into the life of N.ave, an artist who works in the professional world during the day and grinds to perfect his craft at night.

My favorite track from the EP is its closer “Black Professional”, highlighting N.ave’s struggle with wanting to be bigger than life and how this could potentially ruin his home life. The track rides on a climactic, synth-led beat with a swanky hook – “I wanna be bigger than life before I see the hearse,” – that hits with massive success. Another striking highlight from the EP, “Cosby Kids” features the vocals of Alyea Pierce was originally written as a homage to Bill Cosby prior to his fall from grace. However, the music video addresses the issue in a uniquely beautiful form.
