Small Talk – “Aquarium”

/

Essentially capturing the tranquil, blue glow of an aquarium with its gentle bass and gently trickling guitars, Small Talk’s new track – “a kaleidoscopic, explosive psychoanalysis featuring the penguins of the New England Aquarium,” – is a winner from their upcoming debut album, out 4/20. Impressing last year with the excellent “Adventure Song“, the group takes it to the next level on “Aquarium”, especially as the illuminating vocals and swirling guitars combine at the two-minute mark for some beautifully melodic results. “One day / not today,” is repeated with hypnotic allure, then going back into the gently trickling verses. It’s a consuming and thoroughly memorable effort that makes me anticipate this talented act’s debut even more.
