Owlbiter – “Make Breakfast”

/

Brooklyn-based musician Matt Cascella fronts the project Owlbiter, whose new album Stud Farm features tracks that possess a tendency to grow from subdued folk-laden minimalism into engaging melodic turns. New track “Make Breakfast” follows such a path, with vocals that never ascend much in volume though speak considerably in emotion. A twangier guitar just past the 30-second mark signals the beginning of the development, with an acoustical section a minute later evolving into the beautiful final minute, where multi-layered vocals send a spine-tingling pitch that reminds of Ed Droste and Tom Krell. Possessing a moving, haunting vocal lead and a knack for quality songwriting, Owlbiter is an act that impresses.

“Make Breakfast” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Folk 2018.
