Decent review. I really can't stand that I can't read one page where people have to talk about watching this movie on acid or listening to an Animal Collective album on acid. Seriously people, we get it. Before you comment, sit back and remind yourself that you are obviously not the only person that realizes a neo-psychedelic band caters to a specific audience so it doesn't need to be brought up every single time Animal Collective is mentioned.

At any rate, ODDSAC is one of those AC projects that I was excited about and not let down by. There are a handful of catchy tracks on it and some good ambient soundscapes. It is by no means as stellar musically as Strawberry Jam is but it really couldn't be since the visual component is just as important as the audio for this project. There are parts that have a true B-movie horror feel to them and the most horrifying aspect of the movie is the uncertainty during the loooooong build to the climax during some of the scenes. All in all, if you are truly a fan of Animal Collective and not just a Merri-fair-weather-fan, you will enjoy ODDSAC.

The first song of the film is my favorite, has been stuck in my head for weeks. True AC fan here, favorite albums being sung tongs, danse manatee, and feels. The specific intended audience I think are youths who enjoy psychedelic drugs, aka psychonauts. I highly suggest viewing this film while on LSD, psylocybin, or a phenyltryptamine, the whole thing will take a new meaning if you do. The band wrote a good deal of their material while on various psychedelics, and each album can be listened to as its own musical/artistic experience. I am clearly endorsing drug use, be careful, stay the hell away from facist cops, and trip in a good setting if you choose to watch Oddsac. It does get kind of unsettling at times.
Dig in.

This guy's review is alright. But you have to remember: it's an opinion. It's lengthy and well-written, but you cannot necessarily say that it's a "good review" when you haven't seen the film. Unfortunately it was not available for viewing everywhere, and the DVD probably won't totally do it justice, but you won't know until you experience it.

My opinion: ODDSAC made my brain leak. It brings out a plethora of emotions within you and it's up for all and any interpretation because there is no plot, only awesome. Colors, lights, clips of small numbers of people doing stuff, creepy people, nature shots and sounds. So many sounds. All displayed through a wave of energy. The thoughts and sensations go up and down, up and down. It really does take you inside their minds. To one of the most advanced degrees that we can acheive as humans anyway.

Watch it. Listen to it. Or if you can't, then wait for the DVD and then watch it on the biggest, loudest theater system you can possibly manage to use. It's a really crazy, hour-long trip, that's all.

The End.

Really great, detailed write up. I have the mp3s of the album, but I would figure that without any context from the "film" it's harder to get into. I really want to actually see what the guys put together.

haha. the funny thing is, there actually were many questions like the one above (from pretentious college student). seriously. either those or questions that could be answered easily with a google search.

i can't decide what i have more respect for: ODDSAC or the band's level of patience with fans like those. how they stayed for almost an hour with questions like those repeating was beyond me.

one girl actually asked the band if they thought SHE would like the Guggenheim project. they gave a puzzled look and tried to answer because they'd clearly never seen the girl in their life. apparently a lot of people in the room had bigger egos than the band :P
