It really exposes most other reviews, as they celebrated this album’s “tightness” and talked about how it is an all-out worship of bluesy rock. It is neither. The album is curious, but not in a good way at all. It is entirely forgettable and I would even go so far as to say it is worst collection of tunes put out by White. I enjoyed Die by the Drop on first listen, but by listen number two, I realized how formulaic and tired it was coming from JW. And your point about Mosshart is dead on — she’s a wonderful vocalist for whom I gained an even greater appreciation on Horehoud, but she’s held back here. It’s all too cute. In all, it’s a floppy disappointment after such a ballsy debut. And what is more depressing is that I excitedly bought tickets for the new series shows supporting this latest. I totally missed out by missing the Horehound tour. That album is superior by far.
