Four years after the fact, here- under the Almighty Defenders' jangle which rips through me, body-bobs evoked- I run into this article and remember Busan in 2010- my expectations of the night with dynamic duo, the "death cult"- an ass buried in Skeletor's face like Lohan, laughing riotously, mockingly, triumphantly- dissipated like awkward laughter.

It was a small venue- The Basement. The corridor leading down in that time-honored fashions . I remember the sense of burgeoning disorientation as the seconds edged toward SHOW TIME and and confusion as the time that showed was halved. Split. (It didn't help that it was my first year there and I'd just gotten over the flu and food poisoning. Nominal entry into death cult, much? Is there a decoder ring?)

There Sultan sat behind percussion. He began, the band noticeably thinned out. The speakers, rather than the venom I had anticipated spiting out like homemade acid, crooned out (his) soul. Add for vertigo. I mean, it was a great show- the hints of doo-wop distilled and , presented to the Busanites that night, but were people out for soul? When expecting King Khan, never.

I remember seeing him after the set behind the bar. His stage presence his bar presence. I hadn't heard until after the fact so little did I know what I was seeing was the wake. After Daegu's wake. I left him alone. Bought him a beer. Didn't bother him much. The vibe there one of a footnote in some story of which you are observing. A stiff drink and a barstool and nothing else.

Later that night, I looked online on the whys. The details obscured or glossed over in euphemism. Something about a holy man. Disoriented again. I left alone and time passed and I had forgotten. Thanks for this.

Hey sounds like good times. I noticed KK & BBQ were playing in Seoul and it made me want to move back there. When I lived in Seoul it was like 100,000 won to see Muse in a middle school gymnasium on a Wednesday night. The music scene in Korea is getting so much better. Cool that you're there to write about it.

My friend in Seoul pointed me here. I am trying to right wrongs. Obviously Khan is a great performer and writer in his own right and I do not own the band's output. I was just very frustrated at the time and being a bit of a dick (given what had happened). I wish him well.

Wow that's a big big shame, although Khan's brazen asshole-attitude really does come off no matter what state of sobriety he's in. It's all fun and games for the most part but behind the scenes I can imagine how much of a wreck he is.

Too bad but I find it hard to sympathise!
