I agree with your point about evolution vs. abrupt desperation. This has been the downfall of many a great band. So far I don’t have to say “I liked their older stuff.”

What an amazing show at a great venue. Saw a few shows (other bands) at Webster Hall and they were so disappointing because of the horrendous sound quality. Wish they were playing in February again at the Bowery. I thought the set was the perfect length, it didn’t drag on like other shows where artists cram in way too much material. The Radio Dept. show truly left me feeling like I wanted more (even though they played a lot of my favorites :)). Johan didn’t have the most exciting stage presence, but his presence fits in well with his style of music. I wouldn’t expect a Kevin Barnes-like performance from The Radio Department and I am glad he set a relaxed vibe at the venue.

Thanks for highlighting these guys, it’s the first time I’ve heard of the Radio Dept. “Never Follow Suit” is a great track. I’ll try to catch them at the El Rey.

I have to respectfully disagree with this sentiment. I LOVE the Radio Dept., I’ve been an avid fan for years. This was my first time finally being able to see them, and I was disappointed. What started with a late performance quickly moved into an unbelievably short set, and I wasn’t really pleased with the set list. Their sound was pretty good, but I just felt like there should have been more.
