goste – “Loadedlikeapistol”

goste Eugene EP Cover

The lonesome and dark industrial atmosphere of goste’s “Loadedlikeapistol” sets a great stage for the alt-rock/electro hybrid, resulting in a track that shows off many of the Brooklyn-based experimental artist’s strengths. goste’s real name is Owen Ross, a producer, instrumentalist, and composer who seems to take a cue from artists like Prefuse 73 and Trent Reznor in infusing playful electronic elements within a relatively dark alt-leaning sound. “Loadedlikeapistol” is a highlight off his upcoming 6-song EP, Eugene.

To start, the track features a relatively barren intro with guitar twangs and ominous synth echos that surround Ross’ voice, which resembles a cross between Damon Albarn’s semi-nasally melodic croon and Maynard James Keenan’s ruminating ferocity. The track expands with additional percussion, backing vocal additions, and eventually an impressive electro-minded outro that shows Ross’ impressive eclectic reach. Listen to “Omar’s Ghost”, another highlight off Eugene, below. It shows a brighter and even more infectious element to goste’s sound:
