Mount Sinai – “Weightless”

/

Mount Sinai is the moniker of Mark S. Aaron, formally known as Rooster Cole. He was also frontman and songwriter of Black Black Hills. With the Mount Sinai project, Aaron channels a sound that sounds like an ode to Roxy Music — specifically, a theatrical quiver of a voice combining with gripping musical accompaniments that are seemingly cinematic in tone. Certainly, fans of Timber Timbre, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, and the like will find enjoyment here as well. Themes of the project include “overblown gestures, narratives of hope in desolate spaces and beauty in what is quite often the mundane.” “Weightless” rides confidently on blaring guitars and overarching brass, the suave tones apparent in every facet of the instrumentation and vocals.

Alongside Aaron, Mount Sinai consists of longtime musical collaborator Tom Windsor (Black Black Hills), Alex Painter (Great Pagans), Max Numajiri (Spacenoid), and Jools Owen (Bear’s Den).

“Weightless” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2018’ Spotify playlist.
