kazaizen – “Telephone (All Alone)” + “Bye the Sea”

//

Exuding hypnotic, jangly charm “Telephone (All Alone)” and “Bye the Sea” are captivating new tracks from kazaizen, the project of Jonny Kasai. The Saint Paul, Minnesota-based artist crafts an atmospheric vein of rock, channeling ’60s psychedelia with a modern lo-fi sensibility. The tracks come via self-released album Cyclops Dragon Light Switch.

Gentle keys open “Telephone (All Alone)” with a soulful vibe, with echoing guitars reminding of Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Suave vocals continue to fit in the realm of funk and soul, exceling with added vigor past the one-minute mark. Guitar emphasis in the second half adds lovingly to the scorching feel, as gentle keys bring this satiating track to a close.

“Bye the Sea” engrosses with trippy allure. Jangly guitars accompany the title-referencing refrain, exuding an enjoyable nonchalance and feeling of escapism. Watch it with the video below, for an extra sensory and psychedelic experience. Both these tracks show an artist well on the rise.

“Telephone (All Alone),” “Bye the Sea,” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2021’ Spotify playlist.
