Distant Lovers – “Two Birthdays”

/

“Two Birthdays” casts a dreamy spell throughout, the lush synths and hooky vocal lead driving to a soaring chorus. The track comes via Distant Lovers, the project of San Francisco Bay Area-based musician Alex Lasner. Aesthetically bearing a likeness to The Radio Dept. with the synth-laden pleasantries and hypnotically straight-cutting percussion, “Two Birthdays” charms throughout, developing further with the enchanting bridge around 02:35. “Two birthdays in a year,” Lasner sings during the chorus, a replay-inducing success.

Lasner describes the track as “a torch song written from the perspective of a lover holding out hope that the subject of their unrequited love will someday return to blow out the flames of still-burning birthday candles.”

“Two Birthdays” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2021’ Spotify playlist.
