Delighting in its mixture of dreamy shoegaze and ’90s alt-rock invigoration, “Feel The Glow” serves as the memorable lead single for In The Blur, the upcoming sophomore album from Olympia, WA-based band Waves Crashing. Their 2025 album Effection was amongst our favorite albums of 2025, and “Feel The Glow” certainly suggests that its full-length follow-up will continue the project’s knack for fantastic songwriting and expansive rock productions. Since forming in 2019, the quartet has become a staple of the Pacific Northwest scene, blending the immersive textures of shoegaze with an often driving post-punk pulse.

A crisp guitar jangling quickly gives way to a blast of thunderous distortion, fully embracing a shoegaze-y textural pull in that initially brief eruption. “If it’s all the same to you, let it show,” an introspective vocal feeling emerges alongside the dreamier realm of guitar and bass synergy, ascending thereafter into warming vocal reassurances and equally caressing guitar ardor. “It’s alright, you’ll be okay. I know you’re somewhere in between,” the vocals then let out as the sludgy guitar distortion invokes a ’90s alt-rock fierceness, preceded by a debonair title-touting encouragement. The whirring guitar tones and laid-back vocals coexist throughout with replay-inducing appeal, strutting a throwback shoegaze/alt-rock cohesion while still remaining distinctive to Waves Crashing’s own brand of anthemic fervency.

—

Leeds-based band Lozenge unveil a textured, shoegaze appeal on new single “For Lack of Trying,” seamlessly infusing ethereal vocals and dynamic guitar tones — shifting cohesively between twangy subduedness and blasts of gorgeous distortion. “It’s about the inertia you feel sometimes where you can’t bring yourself to do anything, sometimes for quite a while, and the guilt and shame associated with that,” the band says of the track. Joe Collinson’s bursting guitar work envelops right away, as does the steady rhythm section of drummer Jacob Marston (HONESTY live, ex-Dead Naked Hippies) and new bassist Joe Clarke (also ex-Dead Naked Hippies).

Glistening guitar work drives impactfully into a title-touting vocal declaration — “I’m livin’ the dream, quite literally” — with lushly absorbing flair. Per Common Loon, the track also infuses “field recordings from travels with my partner to try to create a feeling of dreamlike gratitude in the listener, to remind that everything we hold dear will one day go away with a final closing — or opening — of the eyes.” “Livin’ the Dream” is a replay-inducing standout from Common Loon.

Minneapolis-based quartet Wastrels return after six years with a fantastic self-titled album, blending immersive shoegaze textures, head-nodding post-punk grooves, swirling guitars, and moody synths. From the shimmering haze of “Castles” to the hypnotic textures of “Cut of Your Teeth” and shoegaze grandeur of “Sightlines,” the album traverses dreamlike expanses and gripping emotion alike.

“Castles” opens the album with captivating flair, venturing seamlessly from hazy guitar strums into layered expansions of glistening twangs and warming distortion. Lush vocals and sturdy rhythms enchant throughout as well, building to a delectable guitar solo that crosses the four-minute turn with soaring, debonair immersion. The album’s production enthralls in its spacious dynamics, succeeding across both nocturnal rhythm-forward charm and invigorating guitar forces. The latter is immediately apparent on the ensuing “Curious Venom,” as ghostly guitar feedback traverses into a rapid ardor with a sturdy post-punk pulse. Intensified guitars complement an introspective vocal feeling — contemplating “from the inside looking out” and vice versa, as whirls of guitars begin and end with feedback-laced resonance.

Another standout track, “The Hour We Wake” builds into a feverish array of pitter-pattering percussion and delectably grimy guitars, which attain a more vibrant allure as magnetic synth enter the fold. “Take my hand,” impactful vocals beckon, easing in and out of prominence. Both the bass-y vocal-fronted verses and bursting guitar-led swells captivate. Wastrels doesn’t really let up in its quality songwriting from there. “Cut of Your Teeth” is especially memorable in its chilly, deep vocal feeling and hypnotic textures — reminding fondly of The Chameleons UK’s more subdued works — while album finale “Sightlines” moves from jangling, crisp guitars into flourishing vocal harmoniousness and shoegaze-ready guitar textures with lovable entrancement. Wastrels thoroughly impress across this excellent self-titled album.
