Inspired by a fever dream that involved an insatiable desire for soup, “Soup” is an intriguing success of a track from Lem Lom, the project of Jo Wagner. The New York-based artist first wrote the song back in 2012, and now it sees the light of day following a recent unearthing.

Pushes of tender electric guitar and spacey synths hypnotize, while the emerging bass line exudes a late-night crawl with Lynchian allure. The caressing guitars and warming rhythmic backing make for an absorbing, atmospheric pull, with the ensuing vocals furthering the sense of introspection. Blaring guitar tones enthuse as the final minute hits, then settling back into the subdued, late-night initial atmospheric pull. “Soup” is a blissful earworm from Lem Lom.

Smitten lyricism combines with warming guitar tones, exuding a McCartney-esque glow, as Suena’s vocals arrive into a lovely “have you ever seen the rain come down…” sequence.

Hypnotic acoustic strums, psych-friendly guitar twangs, and melodic vocal introspection charm across “Petey’s Little Song,” a new track from John Canevaro. Representing the finale to 5-track EP Bedda, “Petey’s Little Song” captures the act of “choosing a new love before you’re done healing from your last heartbreak.” The idyllic initial setting — “Sunday pancakes in the morning” — pairs with the grim reality: “In ten days, I’ll be gone.” Canevaro’s debonair vocal tone moves seamlessly amidst the swaying guitar enjoyment, culminating in a catching title-bearing refrain. The elements of moving too early after a relationship’s demise are captured artfully —

A lush, jangly charmer from Brooklyn-based artist Samuel Campoli, “Every Time” is amongst the many highlights on his newly released EP, Going to Places. The EP as a whole dazzles across both moments of subdued psych-ready introspection and more expressive, hooky ardor — a dynamic prowess that’s evident on this standout single as well, even in its brief though wholly impactful runtime. A musician, composer, and audio engineer, Campoli’s harmonious vocal layering and knack for sating tonal evolutions compel throughout this track and Going to Places.

Mellow guitar pulses, with a breezy island-set feeling, move seamlessly within Campoli’s gentle vocal ethereality. Tactful doses of reflective backing harmonies build with enjoyable immersion, into the absorbing “how did this happen to me?” refrain — where added guitar twanging and more active rhythms coincide with replay-inducing allure. The range between the verses’ dreamy contemplations and the more rousing rock spirit in that refrain makes for a consistently engaging listen.

The track’s structural journey derives enjoyably from Campoli’s diverse tastes and expertise. The initial, serene guitar tones feel reflective of his love for tropical psychedelic music, while the ensuing fervency brings forth a textured charisma and satiating expanse — a thorough success in terms of mood, which is no surprise coming from an artist in Campoli, who has succeeded in the realm of film scores as well; he scored a feature by John E. Kilberg.

“Every Time” is a delightful piece of songwriting and production from Campoli, who enthralls across the entirety of the Going to Places EP, streaming in full below:

Dork Shadows by Bleak Streak Stockholm-based trio Bleak Streak unveil an ominous, poignantly scathing rock invigoration on new single “Dork Shadows.” A quaint assortment of piano, brass, and simmering orchestration make for an introspective opening, which then develops into a thrashing rock vigor with jangling guitars and spirited percussion. “Dork shadows approaching,” the vocals let out there. “Geeks with rich parents thrive.” Various vocal layers meld with the bursts of guitars and brass-y blaring throughout.

A haunting dreamy pop intrigue swells on “Medicine,” a track from Melissa Seals. Developing from ghostly initial mystique into a pulsing electro-pop adornment, the track absorbs in the “taste of my medicine” vocal ascent — maintaining a soulful vocal soaring amidst an enveloping dark-pop entrancement. Adding to the fantastic aesthetic is the immersive music video, which was filmed in a haunted house, fittingly. Melissa Seals thoroughly impresses with “Medicine,” which is described as playing “on the metaphor of love as an addiction—where heartbreak feels like withdrawal.” — This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating
