A gorgeous fusion of warm acoustics and spacey electronics, “Cloud To Cloud” opens Perth-based composer Paul Frazer Clarke‘s Five Coordinates EP series in riveting form. Featuring the lush, enchanting vocals of Dutch artist Tara Pasveer, the track evokes the downtempo bliss of Zero 7 and Air, crafting a deeply atmospheric journey about floating unburdened through life.

Serene acoustic strums and mellow keys open the track, seamlessly met by Pasveer’s hypnotic vocal introspection. Lyrical perspectives of “I drift further away” aptly meld with a spacious atmospheric blissfulness, weaving in spacey electronic textures amidst slow-moving, gorgeous strings. Multiple vocal layers intermingle into a magnetic “as I float from cloud to cloud” chorus, bolstered by a re-emergence of the strumming acoustics, and overall building a memorable soundscape with shades of Air’s vocal-guested works, like the Beth Hirsch-starring “All I Need.”

The approach to the three-minute turn is particularly emotive, with Pasveer’s vocals soaring across layers and into a reprise of the “as I float” hook. It’s hard not to envision a bright, spectral spirit bouncing from cloud to cloud with ethereal ability, as the combination of acoustics, keys, rhythms, and vocals conjure a thoroughly enveloping dreaminess. “Cloud To Cloud” is a fantastic track from Paul Frazer Clarke.

Emitting a magnetic rock sound inspired by Wilco and Tom Petty, “Who Cares” is an impactful new single from Pennsylvania-based artist Alex Stanilla. The track chronicles the first six months of his sobriety journey, transforming a doctor’s encouraging words into a cathartic anthem of acceptance and vulnerability.

Glistening keys and jangly guitars kick the track off with melodically approachable charm. Stanilla’s vocals emerge with equal doses of charisma and introspection, soaring in the “guess I noticed that they’re all coming true” perspectives of vulnerability. His vocals there remind fondly of James Dean Bradfield in their radiance and seamless ascent, escalating in the heartfelt “nobody cares about wherever you started or how he lost all of his friends.” The verses’ vaguer accounts move into greater clarity, with that title-bearing “who cares” hook arriving within an effervescent refrain — feeling cathartic as a reminder of that doctor’s encouraging words upon Stanilla’s discharge.

Gorgeous backing vocal harmonies infuse past the track’s midpoint, with the ensuing “condensation on a stained glass window, doesn’t look a thing like god” lyricism being artful in its clinging onto hope and guiding light, no matter how unique the circumstance. A lusher “who cares” refrain then closes out the track, questioning “does anybody?” before a final anthemic swell. “Who Cares” is a powerful, personal success from Alex Stanilla, incorporating hooky melodic vibrancy alongside poignant reflections on sobriety and the five stages of recovery.

A hauntingly atmospheric foray into dark electronic territory, “Tunnels” is an enveloping track from Budapest-based producer KOLETT. Incorporating raw field recordings captured during a daily commute, the single brilliantly pairs gritty underground textures with an environmental consciousness, transforming a subterranean subway ride into a poignant metaphor for ongoing artistic and mental struggles.

“I wrote these lyrics while commuting, so I wanted to bring that exact feeling into the track,” KOLETT explains. “I recorded the sound of an approaching subway train and let it set the mood for the whole song. It’s basically the sound of the city meeting my own headspace.”

The track’s riveting, haunting soundscape sends chills right away, melding a buzzing ambience with ghostly vocal processions. The vague and subdued vocal delivery floats with ethereal, free-flowing prowess amidst the woozy, industrial electronic tone, then maneuvering into a whispered vocal layer: “No more lights, no more stops / Just the sound of iron drops.” The descriptions of this commuter experience echo a state of stagnation as KOLETT’s vocals continue, depicting how “there is no way of turning back” amidst visceral “heavy air, a concrete chest” equivalence to a subway car.

The equivalency of this shadowy, subway underpass to creative struggles is artfully accomplished. “I am the seed beneath the stone, growing in the dark, alone,” the vocals carry through the rumbling field recordings and simmering electronic resonance, framing oneself as an evident participant on this journey, looking beyond the superficial facade of the urban hustle, and into the complexities of physical and mental transit spaces. “Tunnels” is a heady, ominously atmospheric tour-de-force from KOLETT.

Bridging ancestral Bulgarian heritage with futuristic innovation, “World Receiver” is an immersive new audiovisual project from interdisciplinary artist E0N. The track masterfully warps traditional vocal techniques through a glitchy, avant-garde lens, manifesting a mesmerizing transcultural ritual that explores the boundaries of human consciousness.

The production enthralls in its use of vocal layers, ranging from strikingly elongated tonal vibrancy to more sporadically placed intrigue. The latter aspect is more present initially, with echoed, distant-sounding vocals repeating the word “stream” and then transitioning into a warmer, embracing “from my consciousness” line. Various vocal layers infuse with reflectively melodic qualities past the one-minute mark, blissfully meditative in resembling a call-and-response resonance. “They keep on,” a spaciously stirring vocal presence emerges, seamlessly developing into a yearning clarity: “I don’t wanna leave until the party’s over…”

The vocal effects linger into the final minute with a constant, effervescent pull, emitting a backing pad-like support amidst “we thought that we could be…” introspections. Tonally reminiscent of Björk, within a colorfully psychedelic mix exuding shades of Panda Bear, “World Receiver” is a stunningly atmospheric and creative success of a single from E0N.

The track is also accompanied by a striking music video, drawing from the traditional Bulgarian ritual of Kukeri, involving masked figures associated with transformation, protection, and the crossing between worlds. “Rather than recreating folklore literally, I reimagine these symbols, combined with other diverse elements from different cultural contexts and reinterpret them through glitch aesthetics, saturated colours, fragmented digital textures, and sci-fi-inspired imagery, creating a world that feels simultaneously ancient and post-human,” E0N explains.

A spine-tingling collection of soulfully wordless vocals open the track, met by funky bass and playful synth bounces. Sasha Joy’s smooth vocal lead emerges thereafter, culminating in a reassuring “no matter what is lost, you got you something” hook, with the title-touting element repeating melodically amidst lush acoustics, steady rhythms, and stylish synths. “I don’t know where to go from here, all that I had is gone,” she laments, furthering themes of resilience in moments of loss by proclaiming “at least I’m taking something with me as I move on.”

An especially hypnotic segment arrives just prior to the two-minute turn. Hazy-day recollections are combined aptly with jazzy rhythmic serenity, with the chilling wordless vocal harmonizing leading into another fervent, soulful “you got you something” hook. Expressive vocals then add to the mix, carrying into a fully satisfying conclusion. “Got You Something” is a magnetic, empowering soul-pop success from Sasha Joy.

An immersive single from West Country, England-based act What’s the New Mary Jane, “A Piece of Fruit Will Set You Free” achieves a laid-back rock introspection, conjuring shades of Television and Felt. The track anchors its observational lyricism to an acoustic foundation, swelling into a rich, layered arrangement with second-half strings and keys.

Hazy acoustic strums and steady percussion craft a hypnotic sense of introspection, driving into a suavely impactful vocal delivery, with tonal shades of Tom Verlaine. “Remember to take the roses, they clutter up this home,” they beckon, with the ensuing “we don’t need no TVs” sequence enamoring in its multi-layered vocal approach, culminating in a title-touting “a piece of fruit will set you free” proclamation. A state of displacement — “I haven’t got any money, I haven’t got a home” — intermixes with somber reflections on “you used to call me every day, you used to call me sweetheart,” overall establishing a period of personal tumult and forlorn self-analysis.

The infusion of mellow keys and heartfelt strings envelops across the production’s second half, arriving into another “we don’t need no TVs” layered slacker-rock vocal entrancement. An intriguing mixture of droning effects and bird-chirping melds with the keys for a vibe-y, atmospheric send-off, putting a bow on a stellar, memorable single from What’s the New Mary Jane.

The track comes via the newly released album Do Not Switch Off, streaming below:

A chillingly urgent blend of shadowy rock, “Living A Lie” is a gripping new single from Brisbane-based project Mark’s Paranormal Dysneyland. The track captures a stark, politically charged unease, directly confronting ICE and growing authoritarian threats through a deeply arresting sonic lens. Specifically, the release commemorates the tragic ICE killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.

Simmering guitar distortion and moody piano traverse atmospherically as the track gets underway, then met by a decisive vocal presence that lets out “got my finger on the trigger, I’m looking down the line.” Its debonair, eerie quality struts a psychedelic foreboding, with hints of Syd Barrett. “I’m sure they have a family, their death will suit me fine,” the lyrical disposition outputs a menacing, psychotic quality — reflective of those who simply take orders without regard for others’ well-being, and how dehumanization is rampant in the enforcement of such immigration policies, to the point where death and torture are minimized.

Clanging piano and “I’ll make your life a misery” vocal declarations compel around midpoint, then moving into warbly electric guitar tones and percussive pitter-patter. Slight touches of piano usher in a re-emerging of the vocals, its “looking down the scope” and “I dehumanize my victims” lyricism continuing to stir with their dark, visceral cautions. The shifts between grimier introspection and “drunk on white supremacy” piano-struck ardor make for a resonating listening experience, thematically relevant and poignant alongside the artful rock pace.

A dynamic tonal flair appears immediately, navigating from pulsing guitar heaviness to a twangier, breezy charm. “Open up inside, see what you will find,” Fal’s vocals consume, fondly reminiscent of Metric in the ascent from suave, bass-friendly verses into a more anthemic eruption. “You’re walking on a tightrope,” the vocals let out, magnetic in that refrain as swooning backing vocal harmonies pair with the escalated title-bearing proclamation. Fal’s vocal layers excel in overlapping debonair and excitable deliveries, both full of momentum.

The track’s final minute then invigorates with a fervent guitar-laden appeal, reminiscent of the thumping opening. Fal’s “walking on…” vocal captivation lingers seamlessly alongside, punctuated by further compelling backing vocal harmonies and a shift to the jangly guitar tones. “Tightrope” is a stylish, replay-inducing rock success from Whoop, one of many highlights from their new album TIME TO TALK.

“My Love For You Will Stay” marks an elegant jazz-pop collaboration between Southern California-based vocalist Hana Effron and Grammy-winning producer Toby Gad. Supported by a delicate combo of piano and strings, Effron provides an emotively gripping vocal delivery that navigates themes of unconditional devotion amidst emotional turmoil.

Gentle strings and twinkling piano stir right away, moving seamlessly into Effron’s lush vocal introspection. “When all the shine starts to fade, my love for you will stay,” she sings with dreamy, smitten allure, escalating in steady emotion to a “broken at the seams … tears are falling down your face” depiction of melancholy, tumult, and pain. The title-touting reassurance appears consistently following these accounts of struggle, with Effron’s “I’ll cross a thousand skies with you” sentiments furthering the genuine feelings of unconditional love, through thick and thin.

The ballad-forward strings and theatrical strings envelop in their interplay, exuding a timeless-sounding charm into dramatic piano glistening, which takes sole hold during a finale where a final “my love for you will stay” vocal reveals. Gad’s production excels with a classic piano/string embrace, bolstered gorgeously by Effron’s vocal presence, alternating between lounge-set serenity and more soulful emotion. “My Love For You Will Stay” is a standout success from this very memorable collaboration of Effron and Gad.

Bay Area composer Dren McDonald immerses with the stunning single “Fading.” Representing the first single and chronological finale from the upcoming album Vox Pterous, the release features viral vocalist Sophia James. McDonald orchestrates a nuanced, melancholic environment from unconventional, layered guitar lines, providing a mesmerizing platform for James’ profound, drone-like vocal tones to construct a symbolic dreamscape. The release represents another success for McDonald, who also composes for video games and other multimedia, and has caught our attention previously with the albums Stay: Forever Home Vol. 1 CHAOS and Stay: Forever Home Vol. 2 Cozy.

A dreamy swell, with emerging strings and dreamy wordless vocals, crafts an intimately atmospheric beginning. The hypnotic vocals then meet with a warming acoustic guitar, combining for a blissfully harmonious soundscape that perfectly introduces Sophia James’ riveting vocal lead. “Fading, a wedding tattoo melts away,” James lets out, ascending from lush intrigue to more soaring emotion, evident in the elongated “floats down where it belongs” descriptor. The vocals attain a similarly impassioned demeanor in the “rise and slowly fading” refrain, where that expressive lead cohesively combines with ethereal backing reflections, reminiscent of Mazzy Star.

Ghostly vocal effects and chilly strings then delight around the track’s three-minute turn. This section feels spacious and haunting, allowing the heightened vocal emotion to transform into a specter-like resonance and an airy murmur that fades out into artful finality. “Fading” is a gorgeously textured track from Dren McDonald, mesmerizing as well in Sophia James’ breathtaking vocal work. It has us firmly anticipating the rest of Vox Pterous.
