The artist has immersed in the past with more experimental cuts like “dream factory,” and here showcases a more familiarly inviting charm.
“One night I was learning Pavement and Silver Jews covers when my wife lit a Christmas candle from my mom,” Portka says. “That simple gesture sparked ‘Fun in the Summer.’ It was first tracked at Sear Sound in NYC and later finished in Oakland.” The result is a magnetic, replay-tempting success, particularly captivating in its “that gaze to stare” segment; soaring guitar tones complement the organs and piano with seamless entrancement.
