Emerging from the Toronto rock scene, The Young Scones strut an energy-filled garage-rock sound on their track “Bone.” The group has navigated numerous lineup shifts since forming in 2022, eventually tightening their rhythm section and surpassing one hundred live performances by late 2025. A forthcoming EP, out this spring, serves as a testament to this relentless momentum, capturing the raw, melodic rock sound that has made them a staple of the Toronto scene.

An intersecting mixture of subdued, twangy guitars and erupting distortion flashes back and forth to start, crafting a strong climactic vigor as “Bone” gets underway. The more distortion-ready fervor takes over just prior to the vocal reveal, which plays seamlessly alongside a thumping bass presence and delectable guitar feedback. “I’ve got a bone to pick with you!” the vocals launch into an anthemic garage-rock fervency. “Everything you say now just makes me blue, ’cause I’ve got a bone to pick with you.” The central hook invigorates in its multi-vocal enthusiasm and blaring guitar backing, while the verses maintain a palpable sense of momentum.

“But it’s all right, I’ll see you in the morning light,” the vocals push forth during an especially charismatic moment, with reflective backing harmonies adding a subtle yet effective touch. An ensuing “turn this around” shout-y hopefulness continues the contagious, impassioned allure, then reprising the fantastic central hook. Delighting across both harmonious vocal backings and hard-rocking aggression, “Bone” is a standout rock success from The Young Scones.

—

Heart-racing lyrical accounts continue in the ensuing verses, describing nostalgic late-night drives into another escapism-forward hook — beckoning to “leave together” and put any troubles in the past. The production stirs in the build-up from more subdued, introspective verses into the heartfelt yearning apparent in the chorus, maintaining the jangly guitar effervescence while the vocals escalate steadily in emotion, to that affecting “in the rear view” refrain. “Heartbreak High” is a fantastic debut from The Danphes that has us firmly anticipating what’s next from them.

“Take It Away” is a catchy rock single from Shaky, a one-man band based in York, PA. The garage-rock anthem channels early 2000s energy, particularly in the vein of The Strokes’ angular grit, blending confident vocals with vibrant guitar pulsations. Self-produced at Shaky Records HQ, the track delivers a cathartic message about maintaining resilience against life’s draining cycles, perfectly capturing the “tour-forged” spirit of his rock ‘n’ roll sound. Self-produced at Shaky Records HQ, the track delivers a cathartic message about maintaining resilience against life’s draining cycles, perfectly capturing the “tour-forged” spirit of his rock ‘n’ roll sound.

Swift guitar pulses emerge with sporadic entrancement, punchy and head-nodding with a Strokes-esque prowess as the lead vocals lament a draining 9-to-5 sense. “Working hard to stay awake. Another shift, another drain. Oh how could I not complain?” the vocals continue, tonally charismatic though thematically commiserating. A steadier, debonair presence then assumes form in the bridge, culminating thereafter in an array of shimmering guitar jangling and “you can’t stop me now” vocal power.

The gripping evolution from fragmented guitar tones into an all-enveloping presence in the hook makes for a delightfully climactic listening experience, with that sequence capped off delightfully by twanging guitar work as the vocals assume a soulfully expressive “take it away” allure. “Hit me when I’m down, you watch me hit the ground,” they push into a satiating final segment, cathartic in its encouragements to maintain the high road even in the face of doubters and those who push you down. “Take It Away” is a standout rocker from Shaky.

The ensuing refrain “I just keep feeling a little healing” acknowledges a push to keep moving onward, even as melancholy and words left unsaid linger. This is an excellent piece of songwriting from Raney, formed in 2023 by longtime friends.

A stirring rocker from Los Angeles-based artist hummer, “Big Fish” ventures seamlessly from hazy, debonair rock intrigue into a scorching ardency. “Living gets easy for the big fish,” Aaron Bernards’ sweltering vocals let out in the riveting chorus, moving between those bursts of emotion and “keep you up, just for a little while” suaveness throughout the verses.
The band caught our ears with two tracks in 2023 — the excellent “Hollow Eyes 0_0” and “edge of the earth” — and continue to captivate with “Big Fish.” Bernards mentions an upcoming EP and a newly established band, with upcoming shows in LA. He also elaborates more on the track, below:

“This is one of those songs that came out of nowhere. I walked into my studio one afternoon and plugged in my guitar, turned on this old fuzz pedal and played the main riff. A few hours later, I had a fully realized demo. I’d been pretty angry about some personal stuff, so I guess I incorporated those feelings along with idea of the world being ran by people with no moral… How sometimes it seems like the only way to be “successful” is to be a shark.”

A rollicking rock standout from Swedish band Alpha Pet, “Wow” moves from suave bass-heavy verses into yelping, fervent hookiness. Coming from their self-titled debut EP, out on March 27th, the track uses the roar of a “big machine” as a cynical avatar for excess, where the insulation of a car-centric culture becomes a fortress against reality.

“I really hated cars for a while. Or maybe, more like I was fed up with car-centric society. Those humongous American pick-ups — and, in a sense, American society — became a symbol of that,” says the band’s frontman, Rocky 3000. “Cars are great in some ways, I get that, but not in abundance. I guess America is great in some ways too, or used to be, but not in abundance. So when we came up with this great riff for driving really fast, I tried to channel those feelings.”

Punk and ’70s rock are amongst the influences on the track, which quickly unleashes a whirlwind of energy as raucous guitars and vocal expressions intertwine, and into a bass-forward pulse. The “I’m rolling all sixes” fervent, charismatic hook dazzles in the punchy vocals, expressive guitar, and “woo!” punctuating vocal emotion.

The quivering vocals continue to entice in the ensuing verses, and then back into a fully satiating central hook. The lyrics consume as well; the “killing the truth with gasoline” line and equivalence to a game of loaded dice take issue with a society intent on quick, high-speed satisfaction over truths. “Wow” has us thoroughly anticipating the act’s upcoming self-titled debut EP.

A rousing, emotionally charged rock success from Portland, OR-based band PRESIDIO, “Forever Here” pairs jangly, atmospheric momentum and blistering distortion-laden vigor alongside scathing lyrical sentiments — aimed at a billionaire class more intent on embracing greed than bettering society. The band clarifies its central message: “No matter how much money these leeches drain from collective society, they can’t buy their way out of the consequences of their actions.”

The band started writing the song in 2020, and its thematic hold remains ever-relevant. “So many of us dying, alone in a crowd,” the vocals deliver with scorching ferocity, apt in its observations of society. Subsequent lyricism plays as a fierce reminder: “You’ll never run, from the fear, forever here.” The quivering, theatrical vocals and heavier-rocking prowess in the central chorus delight, reminding those in power that life is temporary, but their misdeeds linger well beyond their grave — and it will be remembered. These resonating themes meld with a powerfully evolving rock production, resulting in a thrilling replay-inducer from PRESIDIO.
