TIFFY – “Don’t Take It Personally”

//

“Don’t Take It Personally” is a captivating rocker from TIFFY, the Boston-based project of multi-instrumentalist Tiffany Sammy. The Asian-American artist is originally from California, where they first fell for the “crunchy and catchy rock” that ran through airwaves in the ’90s. That inspiration is echoed in the nostalgic guitar tones within “Don’t Take It Personally,” whose angsty vocals pair with synth-touched moments of lushness for a dynamic, gripping production.

Coming via the project’s debut LP, So Serious (out on November 3rd), “Don’t Take It Personally” builds with steady charm into the title-touting urgings. “I’m not speaking to anyone,” the snarling vocals admit amidst jangling guitars, traversing thereafter into blissfully melodic guitar lines amidst dreamy backing wordless vocals. A spacey synth-laden charm follows into the anthemic expanse thereafter, quickly showcasing TIFFY’s tonally eclectic, melodic songwriting — reminding fondly of Japanese Breakfast, Soccer Mommy, and Mitski.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
