The project of three lifelong friends from Forest Hills, Queens, Broken Guru relishes no-frills production in their enjoyable brand of charismatic garage psych-rock. The first track off their debut album Bent Up Halo, “Plight Of Imemine” shows songwriter Rich Guerzon’s tendency for nostalgic rock goodness; the chorus recalls excitable Brit-pop, while the stop-start is reminiscent of infectious garage-rock with a touch of rockabilly.
