IDLTRY is a psych-rock group based out of Moscow with a lively hook-filled sound that will appeal both to fans of Arctic Monkeys’ scraggly guitar-led fervor as well as Tame Impala’s soaring and anthemic form of psychedelia. It’s a very accessible and appetizing combo that works well on all four tracks on their recently released EP, The Rite, which can be streamed in full below. My particular favorite is “Magician”, a track inspired by Somerset Maugham’s novel The Magician, a caricature of Aleister Crowley. A punchy bass line, trippy organ, and trickling guitar shuffles work well over mystical vocals, particularly when acoustics lend a fairy tale-like quality around 02:30. It’s an atmospherically rich effort, and one nicely demonstrative the group’s power.
