VOKES – “Backroad” (ft. Nevve)
“Backroad” is the fourth single off VOKES’ upcoming debut 6-track EP, Fractalism. The project is the “alt-soul brainchild of Mike Harris”, with this glitzy effort mixing entrancing female guest vocals with an effervescent collection of swelling synths and seductive melodies. Certain moments – like the interlude around 01:20 – recall Janelle Monae’s hypnotic vocal/soul delivery, with Harris’ production proving faultless in its infectious and atmospheric delivery, topped off beautifully with the lush guitar twangs at the end.
