Jovana Golubovic – “How Can I Make You Love Me”

jovana-golubovic

Jovana Golubovic is a singer/songwriter presently based out of Vancouver, and originally from Croatia (where the music video for her new track “You and I” takes place). That song in particular, which touts a stylish R&B and tropicalia direction, was co-produced by Golubovic and Felix Fung of Little Red Sounds in Vancouver. Her emotive vocals combine with orchestral flourishes – lush and late-night saxophones – for a sweeping and majestic sound, the vocal tone reminding quite favorably of Gwen Stefani and Black Box Recorder’s Sarah Nixey. I may be even fonder of the also just-released track “How Can I Make You Love Me”, a modern soul effort that reminds of Thom Bell’s classics — irresistible vocal line, twangy guitar, and gentle orchestral-like flourishes and all. The vocal layering in the production, with distant backing harmonies, lends a great addition to the already-strong melody, with some great guitar showcasing going on as well toward the conclusion.

Jovana Golubovic is a very talented new act I’ll certainly be keeping an ear out for.
