Portland-based alternative act Freaks of the Sea show a smooth, gliding feel with a bit of warbled funk on new track “Hypocrite”, released on Friday. “Yeah, I’m a hypocrite,” the chorus goes, breaking into a wonderfully atmospheric funk-tinged bridge thereafter past the one-minute mark. There’s a widely accessible appeal here, though enough structural variation to veer away from overly predictable territory, despite the conventional use of chorus.
