Iyam – “World of Magic”

/

20-year-old Indonesian musician Iyam crafts a supremely dreamy, psych-friendly sound on new track “World of Magic”, off his debut EP. Sporadic synths pop up, as a gentle guitar trickle leads. Iyam’s vocals are somehow simultaneously understated and soaring, reminiscent of Tame Impala in that sense. The top-notch production is a byproduct of some excellent songwriting, and aid from Sutan Antonius as mixing engineer and Brian Lucey (Liam Gallagher, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, Sigur Rós) as mastering engineer. The track kicks into gear just after the two-minute mark, with bursting guitars and climactic percussion taking over as the vocals take a temporary backseat. The second half is particularly thrilling, as the track exudes both atmosphere and melodic charisma. Iyam is undoubtedly a name to look out for.
