Balter Band – ‘House Party’ EP

House Party is a five-track EP released today from Balter Band, a nine-piece from Bloomfield, New Jersey with a funky, jam-friendly sound. Opener “Beer Sip” beings with the emphasis on guitars and glistening keys, with brass emerging near the one-minute mark. Brass plays a more prominent role in driving “Starch”, with a Zappa-like appeal. My favorite of the bunch, “Jellybutter”, employs a very smooth assortment of guitars and brass alongside brisk piano work — a great mid-point for a very engaging and accomplished EP.

The EP’s release party is tonight at Crossroads in Garwood, NJ. Balter Band takes the stage at 10PM, with Gasm at 8PM and Stone Insomniac at 9PM.
