Snailmate – “Night Life”

Snailmate’s new EP Existential Anxiety comprises four tracks that focuses on “the anxiety that comes with being alive.” Hip-hop flows and various vocal tricks (from scream-like enthusiasm to funk-tinged allure) aid the charismatic sound. The duo of Kalen Lander and Ariel Monet show their style off on opening track “Night Life”, reminiscent of Beastie Boys’ colorful stylistic aims and general vocal enthusiasm. It’s quite certain, though, that Snailmate’s sound is idiosyncratic to the fullest. From hip-hop to screamo, this is an act seemingly capable of it all.
