Gideon King & City Blog – “Upscale Madhouse”

Upscale Madhouse is a newly released album from Gideon King & City Blog, who have been rising quickly in the NYC jazz scene. King himself has worked with members of Steely Dan, John Scofield, and others. The release features a broad array of musicians, spanning an eclectic assortment of tracks — from the brisk-moving jazz-pop of “Fake it on Facebook” (Matthew Herbert vibes) to the lush acoustical lure of the album’s self-titled track. It’s a very pleasant follow-up to the act’s 2015 full-length City Blog, which earned acclaim. Here, these cast of musicians deliver a pleasing vein of jazz with elements of funk, rock, pop, and fusion.
