Orchid Mantis – “Porch Song”

/

“Porch Song” is the first single from Orchid Mantis’ new album Yellow House, which releases on November 11th via Slovakian lo-fi bedroom-pop cassette label Z Tapes. The project of Atlanta songwriter Thomas Howard, Orchid Mantis impressed in March with the track “Sunlight”, which successfully wandered the “edge between ambient song structures and pop songwriting.” Comparisons to The Radio Dept. were evident then, and remain in place now with “Porch Song”. Guitar twangs and lush, twinkling synths work over a developing vocal presence, one that initially shows a subtle murmur and grows into emotively fervent heights. The prickly guitar tones at 01:50 send a chill that plays well within the serene soundscape. “Porch Song” is another success, and Yellow House is likely to follow suit. Pre-order it here.

“Porch Song” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Lush, Suave/Slacker, + Jangle-Rock 2018.
