Lone Wild – “Savages”

/

Following the riveting “Stranger Ways” last year, Tulsa-based rockers Lone Wild impress again with the track “Savages.” There’s a continuation of the group’s structural creativity, the initial verses touting a minimalist assortment of flickering synths and escalating rhythms. Guitars rise in intensity alongside the vocals just after the one-minute mark, aligning with the lyrics “You say you wanna build a wall now, wall now / Are we Berlin back in 1961?” The track and its accompanying video have a thematic focus on refugees, specifically their current plights around the world. The chorus – “we are not savages, we are all refugees,” – finds success in a consistent theme and falsetto-reaching vocal presence. “Savages” is a topical success with a rousing rock feel, enhanced by intriguing structural variation.

“Savages” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2019’ Spotify playlist.
