Roman is an artist from Greater London whose latest album, Sexual Years, shows a charismatic and idiosyncratic pop sound. A track like “My Girl Is” reminds of ’80s material from Sparks, with emotive vocals and playful synth-laden pop leading an interesting yearning. “Come Back to Mine” is another highlight with its club-friendly feel and hypnotic lyrical repetition, reminding a bit of LCD Soundsystem, especially as the lush synths kick in to provide a serene interlude.
