Runnner – “Eggshell”

//

Los Angeles act Runnner capture an engaging, mellow feel on new track “Eggshell.” Quaint vocals, lush piano lines, and an underlying acoustical twang guide the effort, which the band describes as “lo-fi folk meets bedroom pop with sharp, sad, and sarcastic lyrics about feeling anxious and cooking eggs.” The lyrics touch on how fear and anxiety can curb feelings of youth — punctuated in the final minute’s lyrics – “I’m young, I should just fuckin’ enjoy this shit,” – before the track expands for one last go-round. The touches of twangy guitars and piano throughout, often taking turns as lead when the vocals take a break, succeed melodically and in tone.

“Eggshell” is the first track off Runnner’s upcoming EP, Fan On, recorded and mixed in their garage and mastered by Warren Hildebrand (Alex G, Foxes in Fiction).

“Eggshell” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Folk.
