Souvenir Driver – “Haze”

/

“Haze” is the opening track off Souvenir Driver’s new album A Dangerous Crossing. The track develops with mysterious, spacious beauty — growing considerably from a spacious beginning featuring western-y guitar twangs, foreboding percussion, and a backing synth pad. Steadily, the rhythm section creeps forward as droning guitars add a gripping textural component. By the track’s mid-point, there’s a fond likeness to Television/Tom Verlaine. It’s a great start to a very stellar album, and great to hear again from the Portland(OR)-based Souvenir Driver, who we covered in 2014 with their album Living Water. Since then, they have refined their sound even more, as can be heard on the new album, streaming below:

“Haze” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2019’ Spotify playlist.
