Dhan Dee – “Nickels and Dimes”

/

“Nickels And Dimes” is a thoroughly impressive track from emcee Dhan Dee (aka Pro Blak), also known as the frontman for live band Chicago Loud 9 (cLOUD9). Hailing from Chicago’s west side by way of Cabrini Green, Dhan Dee shows a consuming vocal flow over a lush, jazz-laden beat throughout “Nickels and Dimes” — complete with rainy-day keys, entrancing brass, and hypnotic percussion. Lyrics effectively convey the tendencies of government to nickel-and-dime its citizens through taxes, while simultaneously locking up citizens for nickel and dime bags of a harmless plant. The “god damn Uncle Sam, get your hand out my pocket,” vocal quip plays well throughout, providing a familiar refrain amidst the engaging verses.

“Nickels and Dimes” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Hip-Hop and Rap.
