Tacono Gate – “Something in Your Eye” + “It’ll All Come to Pass”

//

Tacono Gate’s sound drips with rock nostalgia, ranging from the post-punk intensity of Joy Division to haunting guitar tones reminiscent of Suede. “Something in Your Eye” shows this well, in addition to a chorus with added effervescence and infectiousness that reminds fondly of XTC. The band’s aesthetic is one that emphasizes enjoyable melodic variation and hooky twists, within an arsenal reminiscent of ’80s post-punk and ’90s alternative. The rhythmically bustling chorus contrasts nicely with the more understated verses, where a haunting guitar line and creeping vocal presence lead.

“It’ll All Come to Pass” is another highlight off the band’s 3-1 Demo EP. Lusher vocals and hypnotic waves of guitar pave the way here, recalling more spacious acts like Spiritualized while still staying in that ’90s mold. The shoegaze-friendly injection provides added layers to the band’s already-hypnotic sound, evolving into a fun, synth-laden chorus. These two stellar tracks comprise half of the EP.

“Something in Your Eye” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2019’ Spotify playlist.
