Silklake – “On Your Side”

The pleasantly melodic “On Your Side” is the debut single from Silklake, the project of Russian singer/songwriter Egor. Born in a small far-eastern town called Komsomolsk-on-Amur and now living in Moscow, Egor is a songwriter with a strong emphasis on memorable acoustic-friendly melodies. He references Pete Yorn and Nick Drake as inspirations for this track specifically. Mellow vocals adorn around a playful bass, acoustic flutters, and flashes of twinkling keys to start. The one-minute mark sees an electric guitar addition alongside escalating vocal passion, setting up for a memorable chorus. Look out for the track’s music video later this year.

“As for the story behind lyrics of this song, I wrote it after I listened to “An American Prayer” by The Doors,” Egor says. “That’s why there’s a lot of stuff like “secret garden” and so on. Quite in Morrison’s style. But actually it’s a song about how some people prefer stay children inside and follow their dreams despite of ages.”)

“On Your Side” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2019’ Spotify playlist.
