The Rightly So – “Ball and Chain”

The Rightly So are a band from Buffalo, NY, specializing in a rootsy vein of Americana/folk. Their new album, Vandura, is described by the band as “the culmination of 18 months of adventures, a collection of stories we’ve watched unfold and all of the places we’ve been.” The eleven tracks all tout their own flair, with “Ball and Chain” standing out particularly well. The track lyrically touches on how some difficulties — like addiction — can run through and impact a family, and provide an illuminating perspective as a result. The organ-led smoothness is accompanied by effective lyrical sentiments echoing the nature of dependency. The organs rise around 01:38, with vocals escalating in alignment. The track does well in capturing the band’s sound, both in terms of lyrical depth and evident musicianship.
