Dog Basketball – “Ice Machine”

Evoking a nostalgic sophisti-pop sound, “Ice Machine” is a compelling track from Dog Basketball, the project of Denver-based recording artist Zack Marshall. The “do you remember?” vocal repetition plays nicely within the overall theme of reminiscing, set against a bustling bass line and playful keys. The structural variation is enjoyable, with more minimalist bass-fronted moments (like 00:24 and 02:30) swapping with moments where keys/synths and passionate vocals impress. “Ice Machine” tends to merge enjoyable production aspects of sophisti-pop, like mellow yet melodic keys, with a more contemporary standard — resulting in a successful effort that kicks off the project’s new release in quality form.

The track comes from the act’s new self-titled EP, streaming below:

“Ice Machine” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2019’ Spotify playlist.
